Should Rick be nominated, we Republicans who've only been born once will witness a Goldwater-like loss to a president undeserving of a second term. I'm hoping for a brokered convention to save us from ourselves.

Proposing a reasonable compromise for discussion about relationships at this site provokes a comment about the ugliness of racism? My words about making civil unions equal under the law to marriage mean absolutely nothing to those responding to me. And I certainly missed the sarcasm -- Where?

I'm all for changing forms to reflect equality. Just tired of fighting over labels. Why does it bother you so to have "marriage" defined as between a man and a woman, as it has evolved through the years?

Why must homosexuals be so adamant about calling it "marriage"? Hardly any reasonable conservative opposes "civil unions", with all the same protections, responsibilities, and rights as partners in marriage. This is the simple compromise available that should make most parties happy, and yet there's this huge fight over a word. Makes no sense to me.

BREAKING NEWS: Obama Exempts Religious Groups from Contraceptive Mandate view

From "Freakonomics" by Levitt & Dubner, pages 139-140, "In the early 1990s, just as the first cohort of children born after Roe v. Wade was hitting its late teen years, the rate of crime began to fall. And the crime rate continued to fall as an entire generation came of age minus the children whose mothers had not wanted to bring a child into the world. Legalized abortion led to less unwantedness; unwantedness leads to high crime; legalized abortion, therefore, led to less crime."

I'm always inclined to look at the fiscal bottom line to all issues, even moral ones. An unwanted fetus more than likely becomes an unwanted baby needing care from the taxpayers. It's a fact that some 17-18 years after Roe vs. Wade was ruled on, our violent crime rate began to drop significantly. Why? Simply because so many unwanted children weren't born. But having a government department issue a rule to make it mandatory to pay for contraception and/or abortion is overstepping its constitutional authority. This should remain a function of organizations such as Planned Parenthood to fund, and not the government.

Lord help the person who has never mis-spoke. If he wins, Romney just might be the most moral president ever elected. And please, what a lie: "Recently he released his tax returns, which showed his income at nearly $21 million last year and that he paid a lower tax rate than most Americans." According to the Committee on Joint Taxation, 51 percent of American families paid no income tax in 2009, the latest available data. Romney's estimated $3.2 million in federal taxes that will be paid for income earned in 2011 pays for: — The monthly food stamp allowance for about 23,909 people or, — The base salary (before bonuses and allowances) of 178 privates in the U.S. Army or, — The federal contribution to the benefits of 636 Medicaid enrollees. In addition to his taxes, Romney has given around 16.4 percent of his income over the past two years to charity. Seems to me as if Mitt is doing his part in being his brother's keeper. His statement about not worrying about the very poor is the same as Obama declaring there were 57 states in 2008 -- Both men mis-spoke, Romney has admitted it, and that should be the end of it.

Why fear Mormons? They don't run planes into buildings, mercy kill their own families or want to slaughter infidels. In fact, they're some of the most honorable people I know. The real question is, how would D.C. react with someone having moral character as president.

If you don't even have $1.85 for a cup of coffee, perhaps you don't need to be in Starbucks. And that $4.59 you had leftover after the transfer will no doubt go towards an overdraft fee. But of course, it's not your fault for not knowing your available balance. You're just way too busy to be concerned about how your failure to manage your own life has negative consequences. It's sad how a lack of personal responsibility in your life has made you unmarketable, but it's nobody's fault but your own. The world doesn't owe you a living, so please do something about it instead of just complaining.

A blog about all Americans benefitting from food stamps. What next, an article about how all gain when people go on welfare? Me thinks it's the blogger who may have SNAPped.

Perhaps for the #Occupy people, we can re-name the chapter "Illegal Acts" where the real Acts 2:13 becomes the truth: "They have had too much wine."

The Sojo bar is set awfully high to establish a new low, but actually comparing the #Occupy people to what occurred at the Pentecost may have set a new low standard.

It's nice that one of the self-declared "99-percenters" is able to have the means to take three months off. I don't begrudge you the time off, just wish you could recognize that not all of the one percenters are undeserving thieves. Have a nice vacation, but before you go, can you see to it that this blog is changed back to the way it used to be when people actually engaged in interesting conversation on real issues? Thanks.

This site is no longer viable. In addition to the unwanted spam, recent blogs haven't been at all relevant to today's Christian/political world, causing reader's legitimate comments to shrink to almost none. I used to learn a few things from you progressives, but this just isn't any fun anymore.

Those defined as poor in the U.S. would mostly be defined as rich in most parts of the world; it's a relative term, you know.

To address the first person to comment and to #Occupy sympathizing people in general, your dream of economic equality through central government planning and control has never happened in the history of the world. Unless of course, you believe that the economic equality of North Korea, Cuba, the old USSR, and Communist China prior to liberalizing its policies to allow capitalism, is a good thing.

It's rare when a blogger has the guts and integrity to correct a factual error, as Joshua did by changing his percentages on those below the poverty line. Perhaps his last sentence should be changed to reflect the amendment he made to his first sentence.

It was interesting to click on the connection contained in the blog to see who the past winners have been. Clearly, this year's "winner" was chosen in the same vein as Hitler, Khomeini, Stalin, Putin, Nixon, Carter and even Newt. TIME never meant for this award to be for the "best" person of the year, or the one who (person or group) has done the most for humanity!

"I will, as long as I don't have to do any of the work involved!" replied OccupyCincinnati.

Was this a real post, or a conservative disguising himself as an Occupy person? No one would actually admit to being this lazy, would they?

The libs should all support Newt wholeheartedly. With him as the nominee, Obama has a terrific shot at a second term.

What's happened to all of the conservatives who used to post here saying something that infuriates the Sojo community, and gets the discussion started? I guess I'll post one more, but I can't be doing this every time. Even retired guys have other things to do occasionally.

OK, most things cited by the author in this article are reasons for the USA to become more isolationist. They all cost money we don't have. What is it about the evils of massive deficit spending that liberals don't understand? Keep it up and we'll all be like Italy and Greece. And I'll gladly include military spending that needs to be cut, so don't yell at me for that!

There, that should get things started.

I'll try to make this my last comment to all who think I've been cruel.

I wasn't being mean to those who've lost jobs at all. Instead, I was questioning the person working for Target who doesn't want to work on shopping's busiest day. There's probably plenty of bartenders who dread working until 3 AM early Sunday morning, but that's the nature of the job. Like the bartender, if the Target worker objects to working on such a busy day needing all available people, perhaps he/she shouldn't have taken the job to begin with.

And what's with all you people who turn up your noses at minimum wage jobs? Do your job exceptionally and with enthusiasm and the next thing you know, you're the asst. division manager, then division manager, and so it goes. Show you don't want to be there and you have no hope for promotion.

All of this anti-capitalism turns my stomach.

Why don't we just let these workers work whenever they want to, and if they don't want to work at all, pay them anyway. Or maybe they can get fired, draw unemployment insurance for who knows how long Congress will make the next extention for, and Target can go out of business, allowing even more to join the unemployment lines.

When it's late Thanksgiving night, Thanksgiving is over. You've got a job your employer is telling you to do (at Holiday pay rates), so get your lazy butt to work and stop your crying.

Remember that the goal of the Super Committee, as mandated by the Budget Control Act of 2011, was to find a way to cut only $1.2T in spending over a ten year period, or a mere $120B per year, so as to reduce the nation's debt. No tax increases or other forms of increases in revenue above current law are included in the bill. Look it up! Not one mention by Jim about how the Dems failed in discussing meaningful entitlement reform. That's where the real bucks are. Instead, just point the finger at the Pubs. That's just totally unfair and wrong. Sorry Sam, but the National debt just passed the $15T mark not long ago. Ten years from now, who knows how much it will be. Did you mean to say an additional $14T will be added to the debt?
