I would like to see Rick Santorum engage in the civil, bible-based practice of speaking the truth. No more exaggerating others' beliefs, mean-spirited fear-mongering, deception, or slander.
Jesus himself didn't know when he was asked 2000 years ago, so I'm not sure we should congratulate Harold Camping for only now realizing this. More importantly: will Camping's Family Radio ministries return the millions in other people's money spent on his false rapture fear-mongering campaign?
When people say things like that I wonder if Jesus would be accepted in their congregations: Dark complected, Middle Eastern, poor, no English literacy, absence of patriotism, profoundly well-read in scripture, and at odds with dominant church authority.
In the end, I wonder if your friend did you a favor?
The evangelical Franklin Graham recently apologized for trying to erase President Obama's name from the Book of Life. Although Graham still owes the President a direct and personal apology, this is a profound step in the right direction.
The pre-apology era Franklin Graham probably had surprisingly more in common with muslim fundamentalist extremists than with the much larger horizon of global christendom. But now, since Franklin Graham has apologized, maybe he's truly changing.
I think it's appropriate for Franklin Graham to contact President Obama personally and offer a direct apology for trying to erase his name from the Book of Life.
A small but encouraging step away from the larger problem of a bankrupt theology that positions Franklin Graham's harmfully narrow political opinions at the center of everlasting life. This is good news.
I am aware of Levitical Laws against sodomy, just as I am aware of Laws against eating pork and Egyptians sharing a meal with Isrealites.
But I don't think my question has been answered yet. Above, icmpls writes that s/he is disturbed by Christian Piatt's arrogance and intolerance. But where is it? I don't see it.
His point has not been proven, not at all. If you read the post by thevanished, you will see that it relies on blatant exaggeration, distortion, and misrepresentation of other people's statements and positions. Resorting to exaggeration, distortion, and misrepresentation is cheap, unethical, dishonest, fallacious, lazy, and it violates Sojourner's Comment Community Covenant.
No more exaggeration, distortion, or misrepresentation please.
The teachings of Jesus and the other Hebrew prophets are undeniably clear on the matter of lies and deceit. Truth-telling is a biblical foundation that is profoundly non-negotiable.
Jesus had nothing to do with deceptive fear-mongering. People who follow Jesus likewise will have nothing to do with deceptive fear-mongering.
The hatred and spiritual corruption of the Sanhedrin during Jesus' time is alive and well in the U.S. Thank you Sojourners and others for taking a stand against Franklin Graham's hate-filled deception and fear-mongering.
Official rhetoric has helped fuel an escalation of tension between the United States and Iran. Do recent negotiations mark a change in direction, or just a temporary detour from the highway to military attack?

So does Mitt Romney's birth certificate check out, or is it a conspiratorial forgery too? Who's diligently checking on this?
Why are many U.S. evangelicals quick to defend hate-radio and Fox News? I don't hear this from other christians around the globe.

Words of wisdom. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Christian Piatt and Sojourners for speaking truth! Amen!

But Franklin Graham did apologize for attempting to erase President Obama's name from the Book of Life. I see this as profound progress.
I can't find a single scripture where Jesus demanded that Caesar publicly display the Ten Commandments.

Thank you Tim King and Sojourners for speaking the truth, no matter how politically incorrect it is to do so.
Where is the arrogance, intolerance, and hate in Christian Piatt's commentary? I don't see it.
Where in Christian Piatt's commentary or Reverend Roger Wolsey's video is the arrogance and intolerance?
Rick Santorum needs to learn how to tell the truth, and he needs to understand that truth-telling is a foundational biblical principle.
Putting Jesus first is not easy, but it is possible.
