Are you OK with Oprah, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet earning 1000 times what their secrataries do just because they are honest?  Jimmy Carter reminds us that the greatest evil in the world is not aids, malaria, unclean water, corruption or dishonesty.  It is the growing wealth disparity.

Don't underestimate the damager that these creative individuals are doing to our society.

What's next? Sadly, for many of us, next is finding a job. The funds that many of us were being paid to be here are drying up and most of us don't have deep pockets.

A recent new article pointed out that all professional athletes are in the 1%, most Hollywood stars, many entertainers, doctors, and lawyers. In Cincinnati we have expanded our understanding that the 1% is far more than bankers or businessman.

But only 55.3% of Americans between 16 and 29 have jobs.  Is this social justice?

We must keep the focus on the millionaires and billionaires here at home.  Sure, we are all in the 1% if we look at it from a global perspective but doing so would unite us against world poverty at a time that we need to divide America to use the political energy to change our own political system.  We need to be able to call the 1% evil to build the movement and gain momentum.

If we see ourselves as the problem, instead of those that are more wealthy than us, then we will look to spiritual transformation and individual efforts to server instead of demanding our government reform.

Our protests have been based on who has power and how that power influences our system.  I'm sure that Ophra, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and all the other "players" would also say that they "identify" with the 99%, even though they weild excessive political power.

The problem isn't insufficient charity. The problem is corruption in Washington. Additional charity won't solve anything.

Don't assume that most of the occupy people are for the government being looked at as the primary solution to problems.  The key principle that unites the Occupy crowd is that we believe that the wealiest people have disproportionate political power.  But, we also realize that this is only true when government grows and is the solution more so than individuals.

That's what I've been saying but guys like kansasmennonite want to run me off the blog because he says that certainly, I'm not part of the Occpuy Movement because me ideas aren't radical enough.

While some small business owners and some wallstreet bankers are in the 1%, it is a small percentage.  But all professional athletes and Hollywood stars are in the 1%.  And creating jobs for others isn't always idolatry but ... we'll you've said it well with the athletes and Hollywood stars.

Just want you to know that not all of the Occupy crowd is doing free sex, drugs and property distruction.

How can you create a world of greater equality without using the club of power?  Individuals naturally gravitate to wanting a better life, which causes them to work to accumulate more and more and achieve more and more.  Without using the club of power, how do you prevent common individuals from growing up to be Oprah, Steve Jobs, Carl Lindner or Bill Gates?  It's not just that our society has allowed individuals to accumulate increasing proportions of wealth.  The problem is also that a few select individuals now have increasing ability to influence all of society, for good or evil, through their individual effort.  The 1% have become more powerful and influencial than any  time in history.

Hard work should be an option that some choose because that is their choice. We shouldn't force the value of hard work onto others.

Don't misunderstand. I value hard work and I value success. It's just that if we allow success and wealth to be limitless we end of with a small minority that experiences more success, wealth and influence that the rest of us. We need to balance the two.

And what makes you think that our occupy crowds aren't make up of people from across the political spectrum. Our camp includes liberal, conservatives and many that don't know how to categorize themselves. I'd say that conservatives are just as unhappy with the establishment and current power structures as liberals are.

Why should schools provide jobs for students in poor neighborhoods? I disagree with Newt that we should be teaching a connection between hard work and success. We the 99% believe that there should be equal outcomes regardless of who works harder.

The idea that you can accumulate wealth and power through hard work leads to an immoral society. Saying that a strong work ethic is a cultural value necessary to be successful is unfair to those of us that think that equality should come to all regardless of everyone's cultural perspective. It is no more fair to say that the hard workers should have more of the pie than to say that those countries that have more natural resources should have more. We should all receive equally.

Have you noticed that most of the 1% are college educated?  And those that pursue masters and doctorate degrees are more likely than others to climb the ladder and reach the 1%.  In our camps we've been discussing creative ways of slowing down the progress of those that are progressing towards and achieving the 1% level.  What if we put a stiff federal tax on college educations and an even stiffer tax on post degree courses?

How do politicians who arrive in Washington, D.C. as men and women of modest means leave as millionaires? How do they miraculously accumulate wealth at a rate faster than the rest of us? How do politicians' stock portfolios outperform even the best hedge-fund managers'?

We need reform that provides real transparency. Congress should be subject to the Freedom of Information Act like everyone else. We need more detailed financial disclosure reports, and members should submit reports much more often than once a year. All stock transactions above $5,000 should be disclosed within five days.

We need equality under the law. From now on, laws that apply to the private sector must apply to Congress, including whistleblower, conflict-of-interest and insider-trading laws. Trading on nonpublic government information should be illegal both for those who pass on the information and those who trade on it. (This should close the loophole of the blind trusts that aren't really blind because they're managed by family members or friends.)

No more sweetheart land deals with campaign contributors. No gifts of IPO shares. No trading of stocks related to committee assignments. No earmarks where the congressman receives a direct benefit. No accepting campaign contributions while Congress is in session. No lobbyists as family members, and no transitioning into a lobbying career after leaving office. No more revolving door, ever.

This call for real reform must transcend political parties. The grass-roots movements of the right and the left should embrace this.

What we've noticed is that a portion of employees on Wallstreet make disproportionately more than the rest of us but we've also noticed that all professional athletes are in the top 1%.  So are movie stars, entertainers and many doctors and lawyers.  Worse, we noticed that middle class people go to Washington to server in Congress and are quickly transformed into rich individuals through a system that allows special priviledges to Congressmen.

We must not let a few negative stories distract us from our mission of standing for the rights of the 99% and against the accumulation of power by the 1%.  We must continue to speak out against lawyers, doctors, athletes, entertainers, businessmen and politicians that earn more than 99% of all others in society.  It is time to put a halt to the rising incomes of the past 20 years.
