The President is the smartest man in the room. Of course he was intentional about changing the subject. I just don't understand why it is causing him to fall like a rock in polling data of women voters.
You may misunderstand why Obama is changing the topic to contraception and abortion. True, Republicans have won 7 of 11 presidential campaigns since social issues became prominant in the 60s. But Obama chose very carefully when to change the topic.
You will notice that after he changed the topic to contraception his approval rating dropped to an all-time low of 41%. But! His rating among those that strongly approve of the job he is doing is up 10 points. This may not be an issue that will win votes from moderates but it is a conversation that will rally the donations and volunteer efforts from the hard core supporters. And that is what Obama needs 8 months out.
No, the strategy is brilliant and it is working. Yes, the presidents overall approval rating has dropped since he changed the subject to contraception but the energy level of hard-core supporters has risen. We are now seeing the anger factor rising in the dialog.
No, this is not the pot calling the kettle black. First, Sojourner's Politics doesn't do satire. And 2nd, we expect conservatives to a higher standard of civility.
Yes this blog does affirm homosexual relations. The greatest evil in our world our people who bring shame on others by living their lives as if there is an absolute moral standard.
This is a progressive blog. If you don't like that you can leaf!
Valerie is right. We should not abide by, or allow, 50% of Americans living poorer, slower, smaller lives while the other 50% live richer, faster and larger lives. It is just not morally right for the wealthiest and most generous nation in the world to do so.
The president wants to extend some basic rights to Americans - free contraception, healthcare, free life-saving medications, and etc. These rights can't be distributed and ensured fully through a free market system. There must be some intervention through administrators that ensure equal and fair allocation and consumption of resources.
Obama has the right, under the health care reform act, to require insurance companies to provide free contraception to women. I believe insurance companies should also be required to provide life saving drugs, for free, to the indigent.
Conservatives follow the Bible narrowly and view the Bible as absolute truth for all time. They are moralistic, believing that only their ideas are supported by scripture. So they bring guilt and shame on all those that live differently or follow different ideas than the narrow ones they see presented in the Bible.
That is why democrats have so much vitriol for republicans.
You are right. Our federal tax code is regressive, not progressive, like most people think. Rich people pay and a lower and lower rate as their income rises. I heard the other day the 47% of Americans don't pay any federal tax at all, and it is the wealthiest 47% that aren't paying anything!
If we instituted a flat tax at least the rich would start paying taxes to.
Don't like the parity? Go find another blog! This is a progressive blog. If you get your feelings hurt you can go somewhere else. Do you think Rush Limbaugh is better with his calling Harry Reid "Dingy Harry"?
17, are you and Arachne646 the same blogger? I'm on to your pretending to have distorted views of the Tea Party so you can then respond and accuse yourself of being a follower of athiest Joe Stalin trying to imply that this blog is just as much driven by athiesm as Ayn Rand was. It's not going to work. Go blog somewhere else!
You are saying that when editors on this blog call for higher taxes on the rich or increased aid for the poor it is driven by materialism? Nonesense! Why do you post on this blog?
Official rhetoric has helped fuel an escalation of tension between the United States and Iran. Do recent negotiations mark a change in direction, or just a temporary detour from the highway to military attack?

Sojourners doesn't "talked down" the poor or those that live "poorer, smaller and simplier". You are making up your own facts!
Sojourners doesn't "talk down" the poor.
You are talking about John Perkens, not Tony Perkens. Tony is hateful because he says that homosexual sex is considered sin.

This won't hurt Obama at all. He is soaring in the polls!

So what if he was politizing Scripture. If you remember, this blog pointed out that Gov Perry did the same thing.

This is a progressive blog. So as long as Tony's ultimate point fits within the progressive worldview the facts are just details.
