It saddens me that this article passes for eco-theological journalism at Sojourners.

Weak. We need, and deserve, more.

Climate change and the infinite array of social justice issues with which it can be associated is THE central issue of our time. If Sojourners is going to cover an issue like security and climate change, it should either go all the way or leave it to the experts, as this piece was vague at best. If you want to read a real article on the climate and its implications, read Naomi Klein's recent piece entitled "Climate and Capitalism." Interested in climate and security? Read Christian Parenti's "Tropic of Chaos." Both will light a fire in your belly.

The connections one can draw between Klein's thesis and a Gospel of liberation and justice should be evident, and THAT is where our conversation should be beginning. She is one of the few who recognizes and articulates the absolute and profound paradigm shifts that need to occur in order for this to happen, a shift that most readily can take place if rooted in the Gospel of Christ (i.e. the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount.)

For this Sojourner article to conclude with some vague appeal to personal decision changes (while absolutely necessary, I agree) is both ignorant and counter-productive.

It is my own fault, but I guess I just expected more.
