Minor edit suggested - you might want to add an open quotation mark to your first paragraph. At the moment it looks like it's your quote - not Maher's.
I believe that many of them do, through direct giving, partnerships, foundations, etc.
But there's also a sobering statistic that 80% of professional athletes end up broke 5 years or sooner after they've retired. It wouldn't surprise me that being generous with giving would correlate with having wisdom with handling money.
So any kind of ministry or ministry expansion to address those matters should be encouraged, in my opinion.
Took a few hours off to do a few things tonight, but thought I'd check back briefly. Maybe his account did get hacked? I honestly hadn't thought of that.
Hackneyed & trite partisan comments are not worth listening to. You can post your thoughts, but everyone here is welcome and better off to tune them out.
The "both sides do it" may not always be a false equivalency argument. Depending on the context, it may be an instruction to those who are outraged at someone's comments to be consistent in their outrage. Too often, opposing or defending only one kind of bad speech ultimately is nothing more than useless hair-splitting.
I actually find this dichotomy between religious institutions & other employers to be troubling. When did people of faith give up their rights to freedom of religion, just because they aren't called to work for a religious institution?
For those who want or need contraception - nobody who wants to protect religious freedom is interested in taking away from the current state of things. It's becoming more apparent that the White House administration has gone way beyond their constitutional bounds in trying to implement this terrible law.
Disenfranchisement is a concern worth paying attention to - but how does cancelling voter ID laws help with that?
My state has a voter ID law. Is that racist?
My state districts and congressional district have large percentages of minorities living in them. Nobody appears to be concerned with disenfranchisement.
On the other hand, the late Andrew Breitbart did some brilliant investigatory work that exposed some significant occurrences of voter fraud, that may have elected some public officials improperly, e.g. the governor of Washington & one of the senators of Minnesota.
Are there honest investigations or studies that connect racism with voter ID laws?
Well said - the Church (which is God's people gathered together) is His Plan A to reach people for Christ...and there is no Plan B. Buildings can help - but not required!
My faith community is looking for ways to take Christ into our neighborhoods. Grateful for any prayers!

Good points though.
Good blog - great invitation at the end. :)
What's dehumanizing about this? It looks like it follows a model that could make it like microloaning.
I think the answer to bad speech is more speech, but more bad speech wouldn't qualify as more speech.

I wasn't even commenting to you initially.
I commented in order to support someone else's point. Too bad you don't get it.
Full disclosure: I often read & comment on other forums, and I'm happy to call out rudeness on those if I see it. So this isn't personal.
This isn't your blog; it belongs to Sojo.
Nobody here comes to stir up trouble except you, by making personal comments & being rude.
That's why you are trolling.
He never will.
Yes. It doesn't matter how long you've been here.
It's OK to be called out. It's not OK to be obnoxious.
Well, you keep responding to folks, so that kind of defeats your point.

Jesse gets that.
BlueDeacon,
Trolling again? You can't help yourself, can you?
I agree, Sam's listening too.
Hi Sam,
No, you're not crazy.
Wow. Clinton's speech is troubling.

Good ideas - potentially good applications of 1 Peter 4:8-10.
Sooner or later, we're all gonna be poor. And Ryan had nothing to do with it.
I think I'd like Sider, though.
Sometimes pictures make the point better than prose would.
If you see the sign in front of the church I go to, take a photo of it. It says "English Classes", along with a phone number. :)

Happy Birthday Joshua Tree! Now I feel old.

That's very true - touche. :)
Not a fan of class reunions, since I lost touch with nearly everyone in my class. I'm probably missing out on all the fun...
