Several summits and conferences beginning Friday and continuing through Monday at Birmingham churches address civil rights and economic issues.
“Remembrance & Re-Dedication: The 2013 Civil Rights Jubilee Celebration,” opens Friday, April 12, at First United Presbyterian Church in Forestdale from 1:30 to 5 p.m. with speaker Bryan Stevenson, president and founder of the Equal Justice Institute in Montgomery, and the Rev. Aaron Dobynes, former pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma and civil rights activist the Rev. Virgil Wood, who worked with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and served on the SCLC board.
The Rev. Jim Wallis, president of Sojourners, and Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, vice president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, are the speakers on Sunday.
