SOJOURNERS MAGAZINE RECEIVES

TOP HONORS FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

WASHINGTON, DC - Sojourners magazine, a monthly publication that addresses issues of faith, politics, and culture from a biblical perspective, was recognized as the best general interest magazine by two leading religious press organizations for the second straight year.

Sojourners received the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) award for "Best in Class” and the Associated Church Press (ACP) "Award of Excellence.” The magazine received a total of 30 honors including 10 first-place awards, 7 second-place awards, and 13 other awards, including two Silver awards from Folio: The magazine of the magazine industry.

Jim Rice, editor of Sojourners, said receiving the honors from both the Evangelical Press Association and the Associated Church Press was a sign of transformation in the churches. "The biblical call to social justice is increasingly recognized as a central aspect of the gospel, by Christians of all traditions,” Rice said. "These awards simply confirm the broader conversion that we're seeing across the Christian spectrum.”

Jim Wallis, president and CEO of Sojourners and editor-in-chief of Sojourners magazine, said that the awards also reflect how a new generation of Christians is putting social justice at the heart of their faith. "They want their faith to make a difference in their lives, and their lives to make a difference in the world,” Wallis said. "And many of these young people are looking to Sojourners for guidance on how to put their faith into action.”

Sojourners reaches an estimated 35,000 readers in all 50 states through its monthly print publication. The magazine, founded in 1971, also serves nearly 200,000 Christians around the world through its online e-newsletters, blogs, and Web site (www.sojo.net). The magazine is published by Sojourners, the largest network of progressive Christians, whose mission is to articulate the biblical call to social justice, inspiring hope and building a movement to transform individuals, communities, the church, and the world.
