SOJOURNERS LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN: “FINDING OUR WAY IN THE NEW ECONOMY”
Largest network of progressive Christians in the nation launches campaign to educate the public about the need for a moral recovery as well as a financial recovery
Reverend Jim Wallis, President and CEO of Sojourners, announces new book “Rediscovering Values on Wall Street, Main Street and Your Street” to come out on January 4
WASHINGTON, DC – Sojourners, this week, launched “Finding Our Way in the New Economy”. This nationwide campaign, to educate the public about the need for a moral recovery as well as a financial recovery, provides resources, tools and reflections for understanding the impact on families, communities and society when a market-based economy is greed-driven instead of morally based. The resources, tools and reflections will focus on the following issues:
- The Great Recession, while difficult for many, is an opportunity for personal reflection and transformation. For example, greed is good needs to become enough is enough and it’s all about me needs to become we’re in it together.
- Our society became unbalanced with the market taking over our lives and our politics - we need to put it right again.
- It is our choices that we make with our time, money and our democratic voice that can make the changes we need.
“This recession presents us with an enormous opportunity to rediscover our values — as people, as families, as communities of faith, and as a nation,” stated Rev. Jim Wallis, President and CEO of Sojourners. “It is a moment of decision we dare not pass by. We have forgotten some very important things, and it’s time to remember them again. Yes, we do need an economic recovery, but we also need a moral recovery. And we will need a moral compass for the new economy that is emerging.”
A series of blogs were kicked off earlier this week by respected and noted writers: Blogs, Finding Our Way in the New Economy
An action alert to over 200,000 Americans, with thousands choosing to take action, has been sent asking Congress to restore integrity to our financial system: Congress: Restore Integrity to Our Financial Institutions
One useful tool available to the public is “Faith and Finance: Christians and the Economic Crisis.”
Reverend Wallis blogs on his new book, “Rediscovering Values.” As he says, “A book I didn’t plan to write”
Rev. Wallis on his new book: “I have written a new book — one I didn’t expect or plan to write, but one that simply emerged as we were seeking to respond to the economic crisis that has gripped the nation and the world. I wrote it as a tract for the times, and it’s titled Rediscovering Values: On Wall Street, Main Street, and Your Street — A Moral Compass for the New Economy”.
It will be released by Simon & Schuster in January and is available now for pre-orders.
Sojourners “Finding Our Way in the New Economy” will continue into the new year as Congress debates and works to enact reform in the economic sector including banking, credit card, home mortgage and other economic issues that impact the lives of ordinary Americans.
