Sojourners Gives a Lesson on Bullying for #Spirit Day

Date: October 19, 2012

The progressive Christian magazine and website, Sojourners, has shared with its followers the effects of bullying and gone purple for Spirit Day.

Sojourners has tweeted out information with statistics about bullying, which demonstrate why a strong unified opposition to bullying is needed.

Lisa Sharon Harper, Director of Mobilizing at Sojourners, shared her own experience of bullying as a child in a blog post on Sojourner’s web site. Now an influential thought leader on socially progressive Christian issues, she brings us back to when she was six years old and facing a bully that she likens to a “bulldog”. Her story recounts what bullying does to someone’s self-worth and how it affects someone for the rest of their life. She ends with this pledge:

This spirit day I stand in solidarity with all the 6-year-old, 12-year-old, 20-year-old, 40-year-old, and 80-year-old gay and straight women and men who face down bulldogs every day. May our feet remain planted in the truth: We are all made in the image of God. We are all worthy of love.
