The Common Good

New books unfold history, Bible, politics

Date: March 12, 2012

“Left, Right & Christ: Evangelical Faith in Politics,” by Lisa Sharon Harper on the “left” and D. C. Innes on the “right,” offers a refreshing change from the nasty political rhetoric smearing itself around the country now.

No one gets called a slut or a prostitute, and no one quits thinking in this refreshing example of how committed Christians who agree on biblical interpretation and Christian life choices, can also disagree on what role government should play in the lives of Americans.
Harper has a background in organizing faith groups to fight poverty in New York City. Innes is an ordained minister from the conservative Orthodox Presbyterian Church and a professor of politics at King’s College in New York.
