"Faithful Filibuster' Invokes Biblical Mandate To Care For Poor

Date: October 9, 2013

Clergy and religious leaders are gathering outside the U.S. Capitol today to urge Congress to adequately fund programs that aid the poor in the United States and Abroad.

Leaders from the National Association of Evangelicals, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and others are launching what they're calling a "Faithful Filibuster," the recitation of 2,000 verses of Biblical Scripture urging humanity to care for the poor and hungry. The sessions are expected to continue at the beginning of each day's session.
