Faith Leaders Deliver Petition Signed by Nearly 7,000 Christians to Gov. Jan Brewer

Top Christian Activists in Arizona Visit Governor’s Office, Demand Gov. Brewer Reconsider Executive Order

Washington, DC — Christians across the country are pressuring Gov. Jan Brewer to retract her most recent executive order which denies driver’s licenses and other benefits to undocumented young people who qualify for deferred action. These young people, who came to this country by no fault of their own, have been marginalized, pushed aside, and actively punished by Gov. Brewer’s executive order. In response to this harsh and starkly immoral choice, the faith community has gathered nearly 7,000 signatures from across the country of Christians who are demanding that Gov. Brewer retract this executive order.

This petition and its supporting signatures will be delivered to Gov. Brewer on Thursday, August 23rd at 1:00 pm PT.  The accompanying faith leaders will be available for comment before and during the delivery.

Text of the Petition: We believe every person, regardless of immigration status, is created in God's image. Your recent executive order denying driver's licenses and other benefits to undocumented young people who qualify for deferred action is harsh and short-sighted. As people of faith, we urge you to reconsider your position and retract this executive order so that all God's children in Arizona can contribute to your state's economy and strengthen its communities.
