EMERGING VOICES: NEWEST SOJOURNERS INITIATIVE
Rev. Wallis Announces New National Program to Mentor and Lift up Young Leaders
Washington DC, September 20, 2012--
After 40 years of ministry, the urgent call to help lift up and support the next generation of faithful leaders has spurned Sojourners to launch a new initiative called Emerging Voices. It aims to mentor, develop, and promote the most dynamic up-and-coming communicators who are clearly called to lead and publicly articulate the biblical call to social justice.
Cultivated from a breadth of national preachers, teachers, thought-leaders, and activists, Emerging Voices seeks to lift up diverse voices on dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, and Christian traditions. At the center of this project is community building, wherein the Emerging Voices will serve as a forum for the next generation of voices and ideas.
Rev. Jim Wallis, who will be personally mentoring each of the Emerging Voices, said of the project, “Emerging Voices is one of the most exciting things I have been involved in for a long time, and we have formed a very hopeful and impressive circle of young leaders. I believe the Emerging Voices project is crucial for the future of the church and the world. This project is deeply encouraging—both to me and to them—and it give me a powerful sense of the leadership they are already accomplishing.”
The expertise of the Emerging Voices ranges from theology to policy. The blogs, books, and other content from the members of Emerging Voices, as well as contact information, can be found here: http://emergingvoicesproject.com/. They are each available to speak at churches, schools, or public forums to engage people across the country on social justice and Christian thought.
