Founded in August 2004, DCist is the most popular local blog in Washington and it covers all the goings-on of the capital. The site and its editor have been mentioned in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Sun, amongst other publications. Washingtonian magazine said DCist was, "habit-forming" blog that specializes in the collection of "tidbits of political and cultural arcana." In U.S. News, DCist was called a "great blog on what's happening in D.C." The site has been called the best blog by the DC community in the Washington City Paper, the Washingtonian and Washington Blade.

Traffic is currently at 2.4 million pages per month and growing.

Two days after ads inveighing against jihad went up in four Metrorail stations, a progressive Christian group announced it is buying ad space of its own to hit back at what many perceive as a blatantly anti-Muslim campaign. Beginning next week, advertisements placed by the organization Sojourners will implore Metro customers to “Love Your Muslim Neighbors," a clear attempt to serve as a counterweight to ads sponsored by a group called the American Freedom Defense Initiative. Those ads, which went on display this week after a federal judge ordered Metro to allow their installation, read: "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad."
