Now, two religious groups are striking back against the anti-Jihad ads by launching their own separate campaigns with a similar message. “Love your Muslim neighbors,” said Timothy King with the Christian social justice group Sojourners. The ad campaign out today is placed near the posters posted last month. “It’s a simple message, but it’s been at the heart of our belief for a few thousand years and we’re going to stick with it.”

So what does it mean to be an “Evangelical Christian” in 2006? If you talk to Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, you'll get an answer that likely includes opposition to gay marriage and abortion. If you talk to Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners and author of a new book “God's Politics,” you'll get an answer that likely includes a solution to world hunger and security for the people of Darfur.

At a church in Washington, hundreds of committed Christians met recently and tried to map out a strategy to get their values into the political debate. But these are not the conservative Christian values which have been so influential lately. This is the religious left.

I think we have to be very careful about quoting Robertson, because I'm not sure who he represents anymore," he said. "His comments have gone beyond interesting and into bizarre." The "Evening News," he points out, has not covered Robertson's recent comments. So who does he think is a better representative of evangelicals? Jim Wallis, who Schieffer calls "very compelling." (It's worth noting that many consider Wallis to be left-leaning, unlike most evangelical leaders.)
