Different Names, Same Love

I FOUND MARTIN Wroe’s article "Empty Pews, Full Agendas" (November-December 2001) very interesting having spent seven weeks this past summer volunteering at a community center in London’s East End.

While at Cedar Center, an agency that provides services to a largely immigrant population on the Isle of Dogs, I met people from many cultures and backgrounds as well as volunteers from the community and schools in London. I had the opportunity to get to know Muslim men, women, and children who were kind and generous people. They shared with me, among other things, their conviction that despite different names Christians, Muslims, and Jews believe in the same God, love their families in the same way, and hope for a peaceful world.

In these troubled times, volunteering can provide us with the opportunity to learn about ourselves and others.
