  • Role Call.

  • Role Call. "Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom," a play based on interviews with former Guantanamo Bay prisoners, ran in New York in October with retired South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu playing a British judge who challenged the legal justification of the detention camps.
  • Women's Work. Sarah Davis and Carolyn Tyler Guidry were elected bishops in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in July. They are the second and third women to be ordained bishops in the denomination, following Vashti Murphy McKenzie's election in 2000.
  • United Stand. In December, 12 South American countries established the South American Community of Nations (CSN), the world's third-largest regional bloc. The CSN will enhance South America's leverage in negotiating trade agreements-such as the unpopular NAFTA-with the United States.
  • Smart Choice. Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania decided last year that prospective students could donate their $50 application fee to a charity of their choice-a first for a U.S. college. Sojourners Comment Community Covenant

I will express myself with civility, courtesy, and respect for every member of the Sojourners online community, especially toward those with whom I disagree, even if I feel disrespected by them. (Romans 12:17-21)

I will express my disagreements with other community members' ideas without insulting, mocking, or slandering them personally. (Matthew 5:22)

I will not exaggerate others' beliefs nor make unfounded prejudicial assumptions based on labels, categories, or stereotypes. I will always extend the benefit of the doubt. (Ephesians 4:29)

I will hold others accountable by clicking "report" on comments that violate these principles, based not on what ideas are expressed but on how they're expressed. (2 Thessalonians 3:13-15)

I understand that comments reported as abusive are reviewed by Sojourners staff and are subject to removal. Repeat offenders will be blocked from making further comments. (Proverbs 18:7)
