Rachel Corrie, 23, of Olympia, Washington, was killed March 16 when she was run over by an Israeli military bulldozer, moments after the photo at right was taken. Corrie was defending the home of a Palestinian doctor in the Gaza Strip by positioning herself in front of the bulldozer. She had clearly identified herself as an unarmed international peace activist. "The driver did not lift the bulldozer blade and so she was crushed beneath it," said observer Ghassan Andoni. "Then the driver backed up...running over her again."
