What Would Jesus Do?

IT’S BECOME A sort of game for Sojourners loyal readers to watch the magazine turn and twist and jump about when dealing with the issue of homosexuality. Sometimes it is ignored; often someone tries to express the anxiety of dealing with it all. The latter is visited again in the article by Chris Rice, "What I Learned When I Opened My Mouth About Gay Rights" (May-June 2000). His ambivalence is expressed most acutely in the remark, "I have learned that the debate is dominated by two voices: unqualified condemnation and unqualified acceptance" (italics mine). Put so simply, is it not clear as to which of these two is patently Christ-like, and which inevitably drew Jesus’ ire?
