Impatient Prophets

AS ONE OF THOSE organizers of the Pacific Institute for Community Organizations network, I write to say thanks for Helene Slessarev's article "Saul Alinsky Goes to Church" (March-April 2000). Those of us in the "Big 4" networks are somewhat impatient prophets (if I can be so bold). We think that effectiveness is also a measure of real faithfulness. More important, the centrality of forming relationships - which look to create real narrative theologies in connecting individuals and collectives with their stories of faith - is a prophetic act all by itself. We aren't first seeking to "change the world," but rather to uncover the gifts and resources that are in each individual.

I know the above is immodest, but I am grateful for your coverage and for your consistent witness to truth.
