Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are needed for protective accompaniment of Mayans in the north of Chiapas, Mexico, on the Michigan Peace Team long-term project. Volunteers serve a minimum of two months, with poor living conditions and danger. Spanish skills are desired, but not required of all. A training September 13-19 is required. Lutheran Service Corps of Omaha (a social ministry organization of the ELCA) is seeking a mature working or retired individual or couple to live in residence as a spiritual growth facilitator. A background in ministry or religion is preferred. The facilitator receives a two-bedroom apartment with utilities in exchange for 4-6 hours per week planning and facilitating spiritual growth activities for volunteers, building an intentional Christian community, and overseeing upkeep of the residence. Intercultural Nursing Inc. seeks a nurse to serve as a volunteer president. Responsibilities include organizing nurse volunteers to work at mobile clinic sites in the Dominican Republic and Haiti through missions associated with the Episcopal and Catholic churches.
