Sue Bailey Thurman, 93, died on Christmas day 1996 in San
Francisco. A one-time adviser to Gandhi, Sue Bailey
Thurman and her late husband, theologian Howard Thurman,
helped found the Church for the Fellowship of All
Peoples, the first interracial, non-denominational church
in the United States. She was also the founding editor of
AfroAmerican WomenÆs Journal.
