A Christmas Gift

"I thank my God every time I think of you. In every prayer I utter, as I plead on your behalf, I rejoice at the way you have all continually helped promote the good news from the very first day."

— Philippians 1: 3-5

I love Christmas.

I especially love the music of Christmas. I love the lights and the love, which somehow seems a little easier during this season. Most of all I love the message: God made flesh, becoming human, and dwelling among us.

Our giving and receiving of gifts is most of all a reminder of the good gifts that God has already given to us. There is an old Sunday School saying that goes, "You can’t out give God."

No matter how much we give to those around us, it can never match the Light of the World entering into the darkness to be with us. Emmanuel, God with us, is the gift that can’t be out given.

In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, don’t forget that. And don’t forget the people that you are especially thankful for.

This year, I think of and am especially grateful for the gift of the Sojourners staff, my brothers and sisters with whom I share this mission. I am blessed every day to work with a talented and dedicated group of Christians who are wholly committed to the Kingdom of God, which entered into history though a vulnerable child in an animal stall. They work long hours in order to advance the truth that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is good news to the poor, the least, the last, and the lost.

Some of our staff members have been serving at the organization since Sojourners was founded 40 years ago and some are still counting their tenure in weeks. Others were there at the beginning but didn’t get enough the first time around and have come back again! And others are some of the best of a new generation of young Christian leaders who give me great hope for the future of the church.

Here’s what I would like to ask of you: If you appreciate all the work of Sojourners staff as much as I do, would you consider giving them a Christmas gift?

You don’t need to go shopping, no need to wrap anything, just click here and give a year-end donation.

If the work they have done has informed, supported, encouraged, or inspired you, could you please, this Advent and Christmas season, would you give a gift back to the staff here at Sojourners?

We’ve been at this work for 40 years now. We are moving quickly into the next 40. I thank God that you are with us and for the staff that is here.

Your faith, prayers, and donations have made the Sojourners movement relevant, prophetic, and far-reaching in 2011. We’re already hard at work planning our campaigns for 2012 and 2013 – but we need your support to fuel our work.

Click here to let our staff know that they mean as much to you as they do to me.

Merry Christmas,

Jim Wallis
