Often, when we hear about global warming, what we get on the news is statistics that are hard to take in. But last month, I got the chance to talk face-to-face with people bearing witness to how rising oceans and changing weather patterns caused by human carbon emissions are already beginning to devastate people's lives.

Fe'iloakitau Kaho Tevi's resonant voice would make him a fantastic NPR announcer. But he already has a job, as general secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, and a calling -- part of which is to tell people what it's like for whole communities to face being forced from their ancestral homes by the literally rising tides of climate change.
