Economic Recovery Agreement a 'Major Achievement'

Today, the House and Senate will vote on the final economic stimulus conference report. I wrote yesterday that the package, by "directly helping vulnerable people works because it will quickly help stimulate the economy, and it's right because it will immediately help poor and vulnerable people." As the recession continues to deepen, with economists becoming more pessimistic about the future, this stimulus is urgently needed. Bob Greenstein, executive director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and a leading expert on federal budget and tax policy, had this to say:

The economic recovery agreement is a major achievement that should provide timely and substantial stimulus to the deteriorating economy.
