Chief of Staff

Joan joined the staff of Sojourners in December 2006 as the Chief Administrator for Jim Wallis and the Executive Offices. Joan has held various administrative positions.  Just prior to coming to Sojourners, she served for nearly five years as the Chief Administrator for the Office of the Chairman, President and CEO at Enterprise Community Partners whose mission is to provide affordable housing and lift people up and out of poverty.

Developing community and working for reconciliation have been at the core of Joan’s life values.  She was part of the founding group of Sojourners over thirty years ago and was a leader of a Christian community for many years.  Joan is a graduate of University of Maryland, University College, and holds a degree in Behavioral Science.

Joan and her husband, Steve, share a love for the outdoors and gardening (flowers and vegetables – organic, of course!).  When budget and time permit, traveling to new places and experiencing other cultures is high on Joan’s list of favorite things to do.  Sometimes that just means visiting her son Joshua and his wife Laura in Jersey City, NJ, and watching their dance/group movement performances.  But the journey everyday is what is most important to her - to love God and to love others.
